Panini, the famous Italian publisher of self-image albums, has been inundated with phone calls from David Beckham fans after announcing the sticker of the new AC Milan signing is only available on request.

Following Beckham’s recruitment, Panini has decided to publish a thumbnail of the football superstar in the 2008/09 official Panini album.

But the fact that the sticker is missing from the regular packages and is only available on request, has triggered a real ‘panic.’

Panini commercial director Antonio Allegra told ANSA: “It a real obsession. Since early this morning, we have been submerged by telephone calls and e-mails. I think we have had a 1,000 in a single day.

“I could never have imagined something like this. Even after 6p.m. when our offices closed, the telephone was still ringing.

“But we’ll do everything we can to satisfy those who have asked for one. We do not want to create a new case like Pizzaballa – referring to Pierluigi Pizzaballa, Atalanta’s goalkeeper in the 60s, whose sticker was one of the most difficult to find.”

Besides the presence of Beckham, the album will have new stickers of coaches, who were photographed in action to record who is the busiest and most quiet during the matchs.

Each album costs €2.5 while package with five stickers will be sold at €0.50.
