David Villa found the net and was later sent off as Valencia were held to a 1-1 draw at Deportivo La Coruña.

The visitors had their first glimpse of goal after seven minutes when Villa released Joaquín, who glided into the box and rounded Daniel Aranzubia, but the former Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper stuck out his arm and cleanly swatted the ball away.

Valencia went ahead in the 25th minute when Villa picked up a loose ball in the area, turned a defender and slammed his shot past Aranzubia.

Depor should have drawn level a minute into injury time, but Julián de Guzmán could only stab his volley off-balance from three yards out straight at César.

But the Galicians were thrown a lifeline 13 minutes from time when Villa was dismissed for a second bookable offence after he charged in late on Aranzubia in an attempt to block a clearance.

And Depor quickly took advantage of their extra man as Adrián López equalised three minutes later, heading home a Sergio free-kick past a helpless César.

It was no more than the home side deserved and they almost won it with three minutes left, when an error by César let in Lassad Nouioui, but the young French forward could only send his shot into the side netting.
